Scream was the con-tinh daughter of Tsien Chiang, the darklord of I'Cath, hailing from the land of Kara-Tur on the world of Toril.[1][2] She lived in the ghastly Palace of Bones at the heart of I'Cath.[3]

Personality

She grew to be as evil as her mother Tsien, but foolish and easily controlled by her.[1][2]

Relations

Like her sisters Hate, Spite, and Nightingale, Scream was the daughter of Tsien Chiang[1][2] and a great samurai whom she'd forced to fight to the death for her hand, then killed after he had fathered a female infant.[1]

History

Tsien used her powers to place the spirits of her four daughters into four sacred bells, as well as a part of her own spirit to ensure that her daughters could not escape. Her daughters' soulless bodies survived, but completely under their mother's control. Because the bells were forged to be used by the immortal gods, their bodies never again aged a day. Their spirits, meanwhile, became con-tinh, with their life-forces bound to the corrupted bells.[1]

Afterward, Scream and the others served Tsien as her handmaidens and were willing participants in her wickedness. When suitors from other lands came to seek their hands in marriage, Tsien forced them to fight to the death, then killed the victors, all for their amusement. She used their bodies to build her ghastly Palace of Bones, which Scream enjoyed. Only the good sister Nightingale protested, but was beaten for her temerity.[1]

Finally, Nightingale dared question Tsien four times, and for this she was beaten four times, once each by Scream, Hate, and Spit and then by her mother, who this time tried to utterly destroy her body. Nightingale cried out for mercy and help, and thick fog enveloped the bone palace. Certain the gods were working to cast her down to the Nine Hells, Tsien blasphemed against the gods and denied them and killed her emperor.[1] For her sins, the fog that had engulfed her palace tore the land of I'Cath out of Kara-Tur and carried it into the Demiplane of Dread[1][2] in the year 732 BC.[3] The dark powers of that place made it a domain there, with Tsien Chiang as its darklord. No one else lived there except her, her daughters, and their remaining victims.[1][2][3]

Abilities

Scream is a highly resilient con-tinh, with her life-force tied to the Bell of Doom so she only be slain when it was destroyed, and this took at least a disintegrate or limited wish spell. Otherwise, she reformed in a few minutes, fully intact and with all her powers.[2][4]

Activities

Scream served her mother as a handmaiden.[1] Any man she found in the domain, even if he had sworn fealty to Tsien Chiang, she would seduce with her powers and beauty and ultimately kill on her behalf.[2]

Appendix

Background

Instead of Scream being a con-tinh, Islands of Terror suggests a hag as an alternative, while Domains of Dread makes her a hag by default.
