Mordentish was a language in Ravenloft that originated in the domain of Mordent and eventually spread throughout the Northwest Core.[1]

Description[]

Mordentish was a highly flexible language with two distinct dialects, characterized as "High" and "Low." These dialects differed significantly from each other in their vocabularies. Scholars theorized that this divide was due to the language being an imperfect melding of two long forgotten languages.[1]

Speakers[]

Mordentish was considered a primary language in the domains Borca, Dementlieu, Mordent, and Verbrek.[2]

High Mordentish was typically favored by the upper classes of society and was often taught at some of the finer boarding schools in Ravenloft.[3] By contrast, Low Mordentish was considered the language of commoners. Due to its association with the culturally advanced domains of the Northwest Core, it was often considered a literary language.[1]
