Not to be confused with the closely related concept of Cluster Domains.
Clusters were patchwork collections of two or more Cluster Domains in a single Mist-bound region.[1][2] These land masses were larger than Islands of Terror, though none rivaled the Core in size. The Domains in a Cluster typically shared similar climates and geography.[3]
They were ruled by an Overlord, which had a greater array of powers than a Standard Lord, but a lesser array of powers than a Darklord.
Each Overlord was capable of independently closing off the borders of their Domain to the others within a Cluster.[4]
History[]
The first instance of a Cluster in Ravenloft occurred in 547 BC, when the Domain of Forlorn manifested into existence and merged with Barovia. Over time, more Domains merged with them, eventually becoming what is known as The Core.[5]
No new Clusters emerged until after the incident known as The Grand Conjunction occurred in 740 BC. After this many islands merged together to form dozens of new Clusters. The Verdurous Lands was one of the first to emerge.[6]
Notable Clusters[]
- The Amber Wastes
- The Burning Peaks
- Diomeria
- The Frozen Reaches
- The Shadowlands
- The Sundered Skies
- The Verdurous Lands, also known as The Steaming Lands
- The Zherisia Cluster, the smallest of Clusters
